Uchumi Supermarkets Ltd, the oldest retail chain in Kenya, has announced plans to close its Sarit Centre branch at the close of business February 25, 2018.
The company says the decision is part of its turnaround plan as it seeks to return to profitability.
The Sarit Centre branch has been in operations for over 30 years and was one of the retailer’s best performing branches given the prime location.
Meanwhile, there are reports that Carrefour has began negotiations to take up the Sarit space after Uchumi’s exit.
Just last month, Uchumi shut down two branches in Nairobi citing unprofitability.
