Soft drink giant Coca-Cola is set to launch an alcoholic beverage for the first time in the company’s 125-year history, according to a report by BBC.
The planned alcoholic drink, which will be launched in Japan, will contain between 3% & 8% alcohol by volume. The drink will be marketed as an alcopop — a term used to describe sweet but alcoholic drinks.
“We haven’t experimented in the low alcohol category before, but it’s an example of how we continue to explore opportunities outside our core areas,” Jorge Garduno, Coca-Cola’s Japan president was quoted by BBC adding that the drink would not be sold outside of Japan.
