Airtel subscribers will be able to send or receive cash through their mobile wallets to over 200 destinations on the worldwide MoneyGram platform.
This follows a deal between the mobile operator and the US-based MoneyGram cash transfer platform, which is yet to receive the required regulatory approvals by the Communication Authority of Kenya(CAK).
The telco’s users will be able to instantly access the MoneyGram platform from all countries where it has a presence.
MoneyGram already has a partnership with Safaricom, which allows its users in Kenya and Tanzania, to access the platform.
The global firm has similar arrangements with Ecocash run by Zimbabwe’s Econet Wireless, Vodafone cash, Airtel Tigo Money, and MTN momo mobile money wallets in Ghana.
