WhatsApp’s chief business officer, Neeraj Arora, has announced his departure from the company after seven years of service.
Mr Neeraj had been with WhatsApp since 2011 and through Facebook’s $19 billion acquisition of the messaging company in 2014.
“It is time to move on, but I cannot be more proud of how WhatsApp continues to touch people in so many different ways every day. I am confident that WhatsApp will continue to be the simple, secure and trusted communication product for years to come,” Arora said through a Facebook post.
Arora is an Indian Institute of Technology(IIT) Delhi graduate, who also holds an MBA from the Indian School of Business (ISB). He has previously worked with Google for four years, overlooking acquisitions and strategic investments across products and geographies as part of the corporate development team.
His exit comes barely a year after WhatsApp co-founder Jan Koum left the company.
Koum allegedly left due to disagreements with Facebook over Whatsapp user privacy and weakened encryption.
Whatsapp Co-founder Brian Acton also left the company a year ago to pursue a role in a non profit organisation.
The exit of the these executives comes at a time when Whats App grapples with the issue of of users spreading misinformation to large groups of people on the platform.
In his post, Arora thanked Jan and Brian, who he said: “entrusted me to be their business companion for so many years and I am thankful to each one of you who has supported me along the way and made this exciting journey possible.”
