Tourism Minister for Zanzibar, Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, yesterday removed quarantine barriers and announced the reopening for tourist activities. The region will now allow both charter and scheduled flights, removing quarantine barriers for tourists and returning residents.
However, the minister also announced stringent conditions to reduce health risks to tourists and hoteliers during the pandemic.
Zanzibar’s government closed the destination on March 23rd due to the Coronavirus. However, the minister reveals that the region is now safe as there are very few cases, hence the decision to resume tourism activities.

Tourists traveling into Zanzibar will require medical insurance to cover for possible health issues. The administration also set apart an isolation area for individuals with symptoms of COVID-19.
“…you should have your insurance before traveling to Zanzibar. Visitors will undergo all necessary tests [in their countries] before arrival. In Zanzibar, we will test for temperature among other symptoms and those found with severe symptoms will go for further tests including one for Coronavirus…” Mahmoud added.
