The Immigration Department issued a notice informing citizens that they can now schedule an appointment for their ePassport applications. Passport applicants will be able to book an appointment through the eCitizen portal, specifying the convenient date, time and station.
This is after a huge public outcry of long queues at ePassport registration centers especially in Nairobi. The new appointment system is aimed at making it easier for the capture of biometric details at passport processing stations. The system will also potentially help the Immigration Department to know how many applicants are due to visit the various centers on each day and plan accordingly.
Individuals who had already made an ePassport application are required to revisit eCitizen and book the appointments.
Nevertheless, the process exempts sick people in need of urgent medical travel abroad as well as public servants on pressing official missions. At the same time, the exemption extends to students on scholarships and business executive who require immediate travel abroad.
