Senegal will start enjoying a boost in its grid power through the injection of Wind Power from the almost complete Utility-Scale Wind Farm. Once completed, the Parc Eolien Taiba N’Diaye (PETN) – “Taiba N’Diaye Wind Park” will have 46 Vesta Wind turbines. They stand at 11M tall and blade length of 61.7m with each turbine producing 3.5 MW. These will collectively contribute 158.7MW to the national grid.
The wind farm started producing energy 8 months into construction after it started. The construction of the wind farms’ substation was completed and energized in October this year. This new contribution will also give a 15% boost in Senegal’s energy sector.
Additionally, the project is expected to complete in 2020 and also to serve the local community in the next 20 years.

The wind power project is a product of Plan Senegal Emergent (PSE), a flagship project under President Macky Sall. The plan is set to boost Senegal’s economy through reducing energy cost which is among one of the highest globally.
Additionally, the plan aims to make Senegal’s energy sector financially stable to facilitate the construction of energy infrastructure and equipment modernization.
Since 2014, when the plan was launched, $3.5 Billion has been raised through PPP to finance the energy sector. This has shown growth with Senegal’s power capacity moving from 510MW-12000MW from 2015-2018 respectively.
Lekela Power, a company that has installed close to 1,000 MW across West Africa, On Monday the 12th December, tapped its first power supply of the Utility-scale wind farm to the national grid.
