    Weekly turnover at NSE declines to KSh 1.5 Billion

    Weekly turnover at NSE declines to KSh 1.5 Billion

    Activity at the Nairobi Securities Exchange(NSE) was generally lower at the close of the week ended Friday, 2nd October 2020 with the turnover declining by 55.7% to KSh1.5Billion.

    This is compared to a turnover of KSh 3.4 Billion the prior week. Similarly, the volume of shares traded dropped 44.6% to 67.6 million from the 122 million posted the previous week.

    While the NSE All-Share Index declined by 0.1% during the week to close at 140.22, the NSE 20 Index had a weekly gain of 0.2% to 1852.17. The NSE25 Share Index declined 0.19% to 3242.54 basis points.

    Safaricom was the top weekly mover at the bourse with a volume of 29 million shares worth KSh866Million exchanging hands at a fairly stable price of KSh.30.00. This represented 56.83% of the week’s traded value.

    The Banking Sector moved shares worth KSh 388 million, accounting for 25.50% of the week’s traded value. Equity Group Holdings Plc moved 3.5 million shares worth KSh130 million at prices of KSh35.95. KCB Group Plc was down 1.03% to KSh38.50 per share with 2.3 million shares worth KSh93 million moved.

    The Derivatives Market closed the week with a total of 5 contracts valued at KSh 474,000 concluded on Friday last week, a decline from a value of KSh596,000 the prior week.

    A total of KSh 16 billion worth of bonds were traded at the secondary bond market compared to KSh 12 Billion achieved the previous week.
