Hisham Hendi, the managing director of the telecommunications giant Vodacom Tanzania has stepped down as the MD after three years of service, to take up a new role as the commercial lead in Vodafone Spain. The former MD joined Vodacom Tanzania in September 2016 as the head of the commercial business unit and was later promoted to the role of Managing director in August 2018.
Chairman of the board of Vodacom Tanzania, Judge Thomas Mihayo, praised Hisham saying, “During Hisham’s five-year tenor, Vodacom has continued to lead the industry in implementing a digital strategy that has accelerated the country’s financial inclusion through innovative mobile money services.”
Hisham said that he and his team were able to achieve great milestones in digital and financial inclusion during his time in the company. He added that he has left behind a high-performance team made of local senior executives.
Vodacom Tanzania reported a full-year net profit of KSh 2.14 billion (TSh45.76 billion) on 31st March 2020.
The directors of the telecommunications company said that they are looking for a successor and will announce the new managing director in due course.
