The US stock markets posted strong gains on Thursday’s session ahead of a long weekend.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.55%, the Nasdaq 100 was up 0.79% while the S&P 500 was up 0.62% to hit a new closing high thanks to Tesla whose shares rose 5.76%.
US Markets Closed
On Friday, the US markets will be closed for the Christmas holiday.
There was some positive news on the COVID-19 front with the FDA approving Pfizer’s virus treatment for emergency use, while AstraZeneca announced its booster shot significantly increased antibody levels against omicron.
New data releases showed initial jobless claims the week ending December 18 remained unchanged from the previous week at 205,000, while personal spending in November rose slightly by 0.6% and durable goods orders jumped 2.5%. The Consumer Sentiment Index in the United States improved in December, rising 3.9 points month-on-month to 115.8.
