The United States Embassy consular section will not accept old 1000 notes after Thursday September 12th. This move is according to Central Bank’s directive that the old 1000 notes will cease to be legal tender effective October 1st, 2019.

However, the consular section will still accept payments in other denominations after October 1st. Therefore, the embassy’s consular section will still take the old 500, 200,100, and 50 shillings bills after the date.
