An upcoming medium-density housing complex in Nairobi has secured the US Embassy as its anchor tenant. Construction is set to commence this month with the completion date earmarked for April 2022.
The new landmark is a joint venture between Mauritius based Gateway Real Estate Africa and US based Verdant Ventures.
In a statement, the two firms say that the construction phase will create 1,100 direct and 500 indirect jobs. Services such as quantity surveying, project management, construction, and other subcontracting services will be sourced locally.
Greg Pearson, CEO of Gateway Africa, says the firms will use Kenya as a launching pad to build into the rest of East Africa. Pearson added that the Kenyan complex cements the relationship between Gateway and Verdant following a successful collaboration on a similar project in Ethiopia.
Kenyan based architecture firm Design Partnership Ltd will collaborate with South Africa’s Aevitas Group to design the complex.
Gateway Africa specializes in construction of accommodation for multinational corporations and retailers wishing to expand their operations on the African continent. Verdant Ventures focuses on diplomatic housing in Africa.
