The United Kingdom has informed the European Union of its intention to leave the bloc, thus triggering Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty.
The official notice to the EU was delivered by British Ambassador to the EU Sir Tim Barrow. He gave a letter, which was signed by Prime Minister Theresa May last night, to European Council President Donald Tusk.
Theresa May is attending Prime Ministers Questions in Westminster and will discuss triggering Brexit in Parliament. Meanwhile, EU’s Tusk is set to hold a press conference at 1:45 pm CET.
Brexit negotiations are expected to last two years.
