The United Kingdom has appointed Ms Jane Marriott OBE as the first woman envoy to Kenya replacing Nic Hailey who has served since 2015.

Currently, she is the director of the United Kingdom Government’s Joint International Counter-Terrorism Unit.

Marriot is a career diplomat who joined the Foreign and Commonwealth office in 2001 after serving in the country’s cabinet office and home office.

She previously served in the Middle East as the High Commissioner to war-torn Yemen between 2013 and 2015. Jane, who is a terrorism expert, has also served as the country’s joint FCO Director for the Middle East and North Africa.

The 43-year-old also served as an adviser to the US Special Representative to Afghanistan and Pakistan, Richard Holbrooke. She will take up her appointment in September 2019 when Nic Hailey will leave the office.
