Ride-hailing platform, Uber, has announced the entry of its food-delivery wing Uber Eats in Kisumu as it seeks to ramp up its presence in the country.
- Uber Eats was initially introduced in Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, Naivasha, and Eldoret.
- The service has gained popularity over the years, allowing customers to also explore alternative delivery sets like liquor, pharmaceutical products, groceries, and sanitary products.
- Its core business relies on the fact that restaurants do not have the incentive to engage in delivery business themselves because of the cost of logistics.
“We are pleased to welcome Uber Eats to Kisumu County and anticipate significant value being created for restaurants and small businesses. This is a great example of a collaboration between the private and public sector, which yields benefits for individuals, businesses and the community at large,” said Farida Salim, County Executive Member (CEC) of Trade, Tourism, and Industry.
In January, Uber released consumer trends on Uber Eats in 2023 that showed that Kenyans prefer American and African cuisine. The most ordered meals were KFC’s Streetwise 2 and 3, followed by the Full Java House Breakfast, according to the data. The service received the most orders on Fridays and Sundays, at 7pm, 6pm and 1pm.
“Our expansion into Kisumu is a key moment for us as we bring our unique offering of on-demand commerce, selection and affordable offering to the residents of Kisumu. Through Uber Eats, we seek to enhance the overall delivery experience and contribute to the local economy by supporting restaurants and retailers in Kisumu,” said General Manager of Uber Eats Kui Wangui.
