Twiga Foods Expands to Rift Valley Nyanza

Twiga Foods, which distributes fresh fruits and vegetables to retail vendors, Twiga Foods has expanded its operations to parts of Nyanza and South Rift Valley after raising new capital from international investors to fund expansion.

Twiga said the expansion will cover Kisii town, Kaplong in Bomet, Kilgoris in Narok, Migori, Awendo and Oyugis.

Last month, Twiga Foods announced a $50 million Series C funding round, seeking to scale its efforts in Kenya and other neighbouring countries. It targets to move into other markets such as DRC, Congo, Ghana, Nigeria and Cote d’Ivoire as it plans even bigger funding in 2022.

The firm runs a mobile phone-based platform that aggregates demand and streamlines logistics in the distribution of farm produce such as bananas, onions, tomatoes, potatoes, mangoes and cabbages, to small-scale vegetable vendors in city estates, helping make products affordable and increasing sales for vendors.

According to Techcrunch, the firm says that over 100,000 customers use its services across Kenya while delivering more than 600 metric tons of product to 10,000+ retailers daily.
