NSE Turnover down 47% to KSh 480.8 Million

NSE Turnover Dips Due to System Failure

Turnover at the Nairobi Securities Exchange(NSE) declined significantly to KSh 480.8 Million when trading at the bourse closed this Monday, 23rd November, 2020.

This is a 47% decline compared to a turnover of KSh 908.9 Million at the close of trading on Friday, 20th November 2020.

There were 576 equity deals this Monday, a 40% decline from 953 deals concluded on Friday last week. The volume of shares traded also fell 60% to 9.4 Million this Monday compared to 29.3 Million on Friday last week.

The prime movers at the bourse were led by KCB at 4.4 Million, Safaricom( 2.2 Million), EABL( 827,100) and Equity Group(669,500).

The benchmark NSE All Share Index was up 0.03 points to 143.75 while the NSE 20 Share Index was up 1.01 points to settle at 1786.89. The NSE 25 Share Index gained 2.51 points to settle at 3258.19

Carbacid was the top price gainer with 5.40% appreciation to close the day at KSh 8.98 per share. Other gainers were Centum Investments which was up 5% to KSh 16.80, Nation Media Group, up 3.23% and Sameer Africa which appreciated 2.91%.

The worst performers were led by East African Portland Cement, Flame Tree Group Holdings, Olympia Capital Holdings and Sanlam Kenya which was down 5.17%.

After a week of no activity, Safaricom was the only contract featured on the derivatives market.

The secondary bond market had a turnover of KSh 2.2 Billion in 58 deals. This is compared to KSh 2. 44 Billion worth of bonds transacted on Friday last week.
