Tunisia has begun trading under the COMESA Free Trade Area (FTA) after it completed the process of developing and issuing the legal instruments for trading. COMESA is a trade block for the Eastern and Southern Africa States.
Therefore, Tunisia can now export its products to 15 member States of the COMESA FTA without paying import duties. Similarly, goods from other member states’ will gain entry into Tunisia without incurring import duty charges.
The other member states are Kenya, Uganda, Djibouti, Rwanda, Burundi, DRC, Libya, Sudan, Malawi, Zambia, Egypt, Seychelles, Madagascar, Comoros, Mauritius and Zimbabwe.
The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) is a free trade area with twenty-one member states stretching from Tunisia to Eswatini. COMESA was formed in December 1994, replacing a Preferential Trade Area which had existed since 1981.
