TotalEnergies Picks Olivier Van Parys as Board Chairman of Kenyan Subsidiary

TotalEnergies Marketing Kenya Plc, formerly Total Kenya, has picked Olivier Van Parys as Director and Chairman of its Board with effect from September 21, 2021.

Parys, considered an insider in the French oil multinational, replaces Frenchman Jean-Philippe Torres, who has resigned from the position he held since September 2018.

Prior to this appointment, Parys was the Executive Vice President of East and Central Africa Division at TotalEnergies in Paris, France.

Parys has worked for TotalEnergies Company for the last 26 years in various senior positions, said the firm in a notice.
In August 2021, TotalEnergies appointed Eric Fanchini as its new CEO to replace Olagoke Aluko.

These changes in the oil marketer’s C-Suite follows the firm’s rebranding campaign as it seeks to shift to renewable energy.
TotalEnergies Marketing Kenya is part of TotalEnergies, a broad energy company that produces and markets energies on a global scale: oil and biofuels, natural gas and green gases, renewables and electricity.

The French oil firm has been operating in Kenya since 1955; it is the first multinational oil company to be quoted on the Nairobi Securities Exchange(NSE) and is a key part of Kenya’s essential services’ infrastructure.

According to the listed oil marketer’s unaudited financial statements for the period ended 30th June 2021, the firm’s half-year net profit rose to KSh 1.7 Billion compared to KSh 1.1 Billion in H1, 2020.

Net sales increased to KSh 34.5 Billion as of June 30th 2021 compared to KSh 31.5 Billion in H1, 2020 while its Gross Profit increased by 17% emanating from increased sales and stable unit margins.

    TotalEnergies Marketing Kenya Plc Outlook

The firm said the economic environment remains challenging in the short term, owing to a resurgence of new waves and variants of COVID-19.

The French multinational runs 176 service stations, five fully-owned fuel depots and three jointly-owned, two liquefied petroleum gas filling plants, one lubricant blending plant and five aviation depots.

Parys has held various positions in Total including as a lubricant engineer, product development engineer, rising through the ranks to hold managerial positions in Madagascar, Congo, Ghana, France and the Netherlands.
