The Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) Association of Kenya (RAK) has hosted its flagship conference, the 2023 RAK Annual Conference at the Enashipai Hotel in Naivasha.
The conference-themed; Building Momentum and Unlocking the Power of REITs in East Africa brought together over 200 industry experts, policymakers, investors, and real estate professionals across East Africa and beyond to explore opportunities to grow Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) in East Africa.
Ken Masika, Chairman, the REITs Association of Kenya said at the conference, “Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) are potent instruments that have the transformative power to revolutionize the way we approach investment, development, and economic growth in our region.”
Abubakar Hassan, Principal Secretary, State Department of Investment Promotion, Ministry of Trade, Investment and Industry said the Government is committed to supporting and facilitating private investments through public capital markets.
He said REITs are a critical investment vehicle for mobilizing domestic resources and international capital earmarked for real estate projects such as affordable housing.
Kiprono Kittony, Chairman, NSE noted that “REITs are a relatively low-risk, stable asset class that investors can leverage for building sustainable optimal portfolios, particularly during periods of heightened macroeconomic uncertainties like the kind witnessed during the 2008 global financial crisis and the ones we are experiencing now”.
