The Hackathon will be held in Nairobi, Kenya. The deadline to apply is 6 October 2023.
Agripreneurs, agri-processors, agri-corporates, and enabling ecosystem players around them are invited to apply. The key challenges to address include market linkages, knowledge gaps, lack of infrastructure, access to finance, and supply chain.
Post-harvest losses in agriculture are a significant challenge for farmers as well as small and medium-sized processors in Kenya and occur at every stage of the value chain from production to consumption. Loss of produce translates to lost production resources, including land, water, energy, inputs, and lost income for the various players across the value chain. These issues will be further compounded in the face of climate change and while women are heavily impacted by such losses, they are also an important part of the solutions required. The hackathon therefore seeks innovative climate-smart as well as gender-responsive solutions to address the challenge of post-harvest losses.
