The National Assembly invites members of the public to air their views on the Division of Revenue Bill. The bill which seeks to provide governance of how the National and Country governments share revenue has been a contentious issue in parliament, owing to allegations of centralist policies against the National Assembly and The National Treasury.
After the legal tussle in the supreme court where Governors alleged that the National Treasury was ignoring recommendations of the Commission of revenue Allocation regarding the sharing of revenue between the state and the devolved units, the two parties finally tabled 316.5 billion for counties.
The bill will be open for public participation until the noon of 25th July 2019, after which it will be subject for a First Reading and later proceed to the Budget and Appropriations committee for further consideration.
It is in the interest of all Kenyans that Parliament fast track the approval and implementation of the Division of Revenue bill as stalemates between county governments and the national government could delay disbursements of funds to counties.
