    NSE Turnover Drops 36.4% to KSh 301 Million

    NSE Turnover Drops 36.4% to KSh 301 Million

    Nairobi Securities Exchange(NSE) Daily Equity Turnover declined to KSh 301 Million from the previous day’s KSh 473 Million, a drop of 36.4%. The number of shares traded stood at KSh 9.6 Million against 14 Million shares yesterday.

    The Derivatives Market saw 20 contracts valued at KSh 1 Million transacted in today’s trading session.

    The Equity Single Stock Futures contract expiring on 16th June 2022 traded 20 contracts valued at KSh 1 million at a price of KSh 50.21.

    This is against a closing price of KSh 51.50 posted by Equity Group Holdings in the spot market.

    The day’s top price gainer was Liberty, which rose 9.31% to KSh 6.34, followed by East African Portland, which was up 8.83% to KSh 6.90; Umeme which gained 8.06% to KSh 6.70; Uchumi, which edged up 5% to KSh 0.21 and Stanbic which rose 3.99% to KSh 104.25.

    The worst performers were led by Sameer, which declined by 5.28% to KSh 2.51, followed by Home Afrika, which fell 5.26% to KSh 0.36; Sasini, which retreated 3.67% to KSh 18.35; Eveready, which lost 3.41% to close at KSh 0.85 and Flame Tree Group which declined by 3.23% to close the day at KSh 1.20.

    The NSE 20 share Index was up 1.95 points to stand at 1860.75. The benchmark NSE All-Share Index (NASI) was down 0.75 points to stand at 159.36, while the NSE 25 Share Index picked up 1.61 points to settle at 3621.88.

    The Banking Sector had shares worth KSh 139.5Million transacted, which accounted for 46.29% of the day’s traded value.

    Standard Chartered Bank moved 297,000 shares valued at KSh 42Million at between KSh 141.25 and KSh 143.25. KCB Group remained steady at KSh44.15 with shares worth KSh40.7Million transacted. ABSA Bank Kenya was unchanged at KSh12.35 and moved 2.4Million shares valued at KSh 30Million.

    Safaricom was the day’s biggest mover with 2.4Million shares valued at KSh87Million changing hands at between KSh 35.00 and KSh35.95; this represented 29.04% of the day’s traded value.

    Others active counters included E. A Breweries which moved 409,000 shares worth KSh61Million at a relatively stable price of KSh149.00. B.A.T moved 3,000 shares valued at KSh1.67Million and closed at KSh490.00.

    Jubilee Holdings moved 8,000 shares valued at KSh2Million and closed at KSh 274.75. CIC Insurance was down 2.91% to KSh 2.00 and moved 939,000 shares worth KSh 1.8Million.

    There was a turnover of KSh 2 billion in the secondary bonds market on 124 deals compared to the previous day’s KSh 3.4 billion from 136 deals.
