Tatu City’s telecoms company, Tatu Telecom, has crossed the 1,000 customers mark after laying 85kms of fibre optic cable within the development, parent company Rendeavor said in a statement on Thursday.
- Established in 2021, Tatu Telecom received an operating license in 2022 to allow it to lease its fibre network to other internet service providers (ISPs).
- The telco is laying the cable network to provide internet services to businesses and homes within the 5,000-acre development.
- The core network operates at 10Gbps and can be upgraded to 100Gbps.
“This milestone is not just about numbers; it’s about the lives we are transforming by providing reliable, high-speed connectivity to thousands of residents, students, and businesses,” Alex Kahu, Group Head of Utilities, Rendeavour, and Deputy Country Head, Tatu City, said.
Tatu City‘s play to provide its own internet services to residents and enterprises within the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) as part of the developer’s plan to create a ‘self-sustaining’ ecosystem complete with its own utility infrastructure for water, power, roads and sewerage.
