A proposal by Swiss International Hotels and Resorts to put up an exclusive resort in Naro Moru, Nyeri County, has been abandoned.
The decision follows disruptions caused to the global hospitality industry by the coronavirus pandemic, forcing Swiss International to go back to the drawing boards.
Swiss International, a global company, has its international office situated in Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates.
The 5-star leisure and conference resort in Nyeri, at the foot of Mt. Kenya, would have cost more than KSh 7 Billion to construct.
A deal signed four years ago between Mlima Kenya Holiday Homes and Swiss International was to develop the property.
Swiss International already manages the Swiss International Lenana Hotel, located along Lenana road.
The proposed Swiss International Resort Mount Kenya was poised to be the firm’s flagship property in Sub-Sahara Africa.
The property was to have a total of 236 villas, townhouses, hotel rooms & suites and an Event and Conference Centre for 1,000 participants.
Properties run by Swiss International in Africa include Swiss Spirit Hotel & Suites Alisa, Accra Ghana and Swiss International Mabisel-Nigeria.
Other establishments are Swiss International The Vistana, Nigeria, Royal Swiss Empuku Spa & Resort, Uganda and Swiss Spirit Hotel & Suites Danag, Nigeria.
Swiss International Hotels Service AG and its affiliates, however, remain committed to the Kenya circuit and will proceed with other existing projects.
