Super Metro Challenges NTSA License Suspension

Super Metro Challenges NTSA License Suspension

Public transport operator Super Metro Limited has rejected claims made by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) leading to the suspension of its operator license—asserting that the accusations are outdated.

    • •This follows NTSA’s statement stating that the company’s vehicles lacked valid inspection certificates and expired Road Service Licences.
    • •The regulator also flagged 171 Super Metro vehicles for having faulty speed limiter records and highlighted the questionable qualifications of the company’s drivers.
    • •SuperMetro maintains that these issues were addressed before the suspension, including rectifying speed limiter malfunctions through vendor support.

“The allegations are outdated and unfounded, as we have been fully compliant with NTSA regulations and have already addressed concerns raised in their investigation,” the company said in a statement.

The Transport Operator also dismissed the allegations about unqualified drivers, of which NTSA claims that 64 failed retests on March 10. Super Metro stated that these drivers were retrained, retested, and recertified weeks ago.

“All affected drivers have since been recertified and are fully qualified to operate our vehicles,” SuperMetro said.

The firm also contends that it adheres to all labor and statutory requirements, with signed contracts and up-to-date tax and social security contributions. The regulatory agency, in its statement on Thursday, ordered Super Metro to submit valid employment contracts and proof of statutory compliance, including PAYE, NSSF, and SHA contributions.

Super Metro criticized NTSA’s decision as unjust, arguing it jeopardizes the livelihoods of thousands of employees and disrupts essential transport services.

The Public Transport Operator has grown immensely popular over the years—marking its reputation as one of the most service-oriented companies in the sector. However, the taint to its reputation began weeks ago when a conductor in one of its matatus hurled a passenger out of the moving vehicle, killing him. The Matatu crew was arraigned in court and imprisoned, but this has done little to alleviate the stain.
