    Strive Masiyiwa's Econet to Bid for Telecoms License in Ethiopia

    Zimbabwe Billionaire, Strive Masiyiwa’s Econet is set to bid for a telecommunication license to operate in Ethiopia.

    This comes after Ethiopia announced intentions to sell close to 49% of Ethiopian Telecommunications Corp to two multinational mobile companies, and bring to an end the monopoly in the sector.

    Econet Global is a diversified telecommunications group with operations and investments in Africa, Europe, South America and the East Asia Pacific Rim. It offers products and services in the core areas of mobile and fixed telephony services, broadband, satellite, optical fiber networks and mobile money.

    It already has presence in Zimbabwe, Lesotho and Burundi, Europe and South America.

    Other mobile money companies which have expressed interest in the licenses are Orange SA, MTN Group and Vodacom Group Ltd.
