Standards and Quality Infrastructure Reforms Taskforce Established

Industry, Trade and Co-operatives CS, Peter Munya, has appointed a taskforce that is meant to champion the Standards and Quality Infrastructure Reforms in Kenya.

The taskforce’s roles include review and evaluation of comprehensive terms and the short comings of the entire standards and infrastructure in the country. It is also supposed to recommend reforms in a bid to improve industrialization standards in the country.

This comes at a time when there have been claims of counterfeit products finding their way into the markets, despite bodies such as KEBS already being in existence. Thus, with the taskforce in place, illegal and unfair practices in trade across the country will be eliminated within a few months.

    The appointed persons are:

    • •Wachira Maina: Chairperson
    • •Joan Onyango – Kenya Law Reform Commission (KLRC)
    • •David William Okoth – Directorate of Personnel Management (DPM)
    • •Henry Barmo – National Police Service (NPS)
    • •Humphrey Njogu – Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research & Analysis(KIPRRA)
    • •Job Wanjohi – Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM)
    • •Patrick Nyangweso – Kenya National Chamber of Commerce (KNCC)
    • •Evah Oduor
    • •Julius Kimathi Amundi
    • •Dr. Gumato U. Yatani
    • •Eng. Moses Wafula
    • •Joseph Mutuku Mbeva: Head of Secretariat
    • •Susan M. Ochieng–Kenya Accreditation Service (KENAS)
    • •Esther Njeri Ngari– Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS)
    • •Raphael Gichora–Weights and Measures

The taskforce will work in close proximity with Kenya Bureau of standards (KEBS) and any other institution dealing with standards.

As reported by KBC, the Standards and Quality Infrastructure taskforce will also analyze the entire ecosystem policy, legal and legislative frameworks of the various institutions and agencies and submit to the CS and subsequently progress work reports plan at the end of every third week and a final report at the end of two months.
