Stanbic Kenya Industrial Commercial Bank of China Launch Initiative to Boost Tourism

Stanbic Bank Kenya, a member of Standard Bank Group, and the Industrial Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) have launched a new plan to facilitate tourism between Kenya and China by providing incentives for travel, leisure, and shopping to tourists visiting the two nations.

Under the ‘I Go Kenya – I Go China’ loyalty programme, Chinese tourists visiting Kenya will get discounts and special offers when they utilise ICBC cards at select travel, lifestyle merchants, and hospitality in the country.

Kenyan tourists in China will also receive similar incentives when using Stanbic Bank Kenya cards.

China is one of Kenya’s top five tourism source markets offering 5.5 percent of the traffic in 2017 according to statistics by the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB). KTB expects the number of tourists from China to continue rising to become the top source of tourists by 2020.

“Stanbic Bank Kenya is committed to [driving] Kenya’s growth. This strategic partnership to deliver an innovative bespoke offering will unlock [the] potential of this key sector of the economy. As the industry flourishes, it will deliver even more benefits to the economy. This illustrates our wholesome approach towards driving Kenya’s growth because it is our home,” said Charles Mudiwa, Chief Executive of Stanbic Bank Kenya.

The General Manager of ICBC’s Banking Card Center said, “With the further development of ICBC internationalization, the bank would continue to provide its superior products and services in the overseas market.”

ICBC has offered more convenient transnational service to about 100,000 credit card holders in Africa since the first China-Africa transnational promotion, I Go South Africa in November 2017.

In 2018, ICBC and Standard Bank Group will continue to facilitate the I Go campaigns in other African nations to boost economic tourism exchanges between Africa and China.
