Sony Sugar Managing Director, Bernard Otieno, has resigned, stating that he has opted for early retirement.
In April this year, the company’s board of directors sent him on compulsory leave over claims of embezzlement of funds. The decision was made after the Kenya Union of Sugarcane Plantation and Allied Workers issued a protest letter accusing Bernard of misappropriation of funds.
The workers held demonstrations in Awendo, Migori County, demanding approximately KSh100 million in salary arrears.
