Sitoyo Lopokoiyit to Lead Mpesa Africa

Safaricom’s Chief Financial Services Officer, Sitoyo Lopokoiyit, has been appointed to lead Mpesa Africa, the most successful mobile money platform in the continent and the top fintech platform in the Sub-Saharan African region.

Mpesa Africa is a joint venture between Vodacom and Safaricom created in early 2020 to speed up Mpesa’s growth in Africa. The company has operations in Kenya, Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique, Lesotho, Ghana and Egypt.

The top mobile money platform serves more than 42 million customers throughout Africa using its wide network of over 430,000 agents.

Sitoyo Lopokoiyit, who has extensive experience in business development, e-commerce, and mobile money services, is expected to lead the expansion into new African Markets.

The newly appointed managing director joined Kenya’s leading telecommunications company, Safaricom, ten years ago as the Head of Mpesa Strategy and Business Development. From 2015 to 2019, he led Vodacom’s M-commerce business in Tanzania.

Previously, Sitoyo worked as the Diversification Manager at Total Kenya, the Category manager at Uchumi Supermarkets, and as the Business Advisor and Merchandise manager at Chevron Kenya.

Sitoyo has a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) degree in marketing from the University of Nairobi and an MSc in Information Technology Management and Organizational Change from Lancaster University in UK.
