Showmax 2.0 Gets Negative Market Reception

Showmax customers have complained about technical issues and difficulties in navigating the new platform, although the streaming company says it anticipated some teething glitches.

    • •Showmax 2.0 has drawn complaints about glitching and loading delays, with some users experiencing the ‘Something went wrong’ message several times when watching a show.
    • •Showmax subscribers also expected that their accounts would be automatically transferred to the new app.
    • •Customers have reported that their watch lists have been scrambled and various seasons of some shows are missing.

“I am so annoyed by this new platform. I can’t find my Njoro wa Uber. Then there’s season 1-3 and then season 5 of New Amsterdam. Season 4 is missing and that’s where I was,” a customer complained on X.

Some customers have also threatened to unsubscribe from the service because the new app is no longer compatible with their smart TVs. Some users have noted that the old app which functioned well with their devices is no longer available.

“…the new Showmax isn’t an upgrade; it’s a completely new platform, powered by Peacock’s global streaming technology…Some devices, including older makes of smart TVs, are unable to support the enhanced streaming technology,” the streaming company said in an email to The Kenyan WallStreet.

“Given the scale of the changes implemented to bring Showmax onto the Peacock platform, we did anticipate that there could be some technical challenges at launch,” the company added.

Showmax revamped its platform last month after partnering with Comcast’s NBCUniversal and Sky. The partnership was intended to improve the stream’s quality and offer a wider pool of content.

“This isn’t just an upgrade; it’s a completely new and improved app,” says Showmax CEO Marc Jury. “For a complex migration at a massive scale, the migration has run incredibly well with close to 100% of users successfully moved to the new platform, well above industry standards.”
