Lami Technologies, a Kenyan insurance technology (insurtech) company that aims to democratize insurance products and services for low-income Kenyans, has partnered with Sendy Limited, a tech-logistics company, to enable transporters in Kenya to access simple, hassle-free, and affordable insurance products customised on a per-trip basis.
This partnership supports the logistic industry by digitising access to insurance for transporters, protecting them against all risks of physical loss or damage from any external cause during transit.
Powered by Lami’s insurance API, transporters moving cargo will be able to swiftly digitise their insurance policy requirements on Sendy’s online freight dashboard for shipment across the country and within East Africa for cargo valued up to KSh5 million.
Sendy’s platform simplifies end-to-end logistics for businesses by connecting them to hundreds of transporters online. Transporters allocated a consignment will be required to access Lami’s embedded and automated insurance policies enabling real-time quotation, adjustable carrier liability on a per-trip basis, and faster claims process on receiving claims reducing inefficiency.
Through this collaboration, we will be able to take advantage of the speed and ease of digitalisation while also assisting our transportation partners by adding a cutting-edge technology that will enhance efficiency to their service offering. It also allows our transportation partners to take advantage of a low-cost per-trip insurance policy, which is in line with our approach of forming alliances that enable our partners to do more.

Founded in 2018, Lami is a digital insurance platform that enables partner businesses – including banks, tech companies, and other entities to easily and seamlessly offer digital insurance products to their users via its API. Lami can also be used by partner businesses to manage their own insurance needs.
Through its API, users can get a quotation for motor, medical, or other tailored insurance products in seconds, then customize the benefits and adjust the premium to suit their needs, get their policy documents instantly, and claims are paid in record time.
Since its inception, the insurtech startup says it has sold more than 5,000 policies and has partnered with more than 25 active underwriters, including Britam, Pioneer, and Madison Insurance, distributing more than 30 products available including medical, motor, employee benefits, and device insurance.
