Saudi Arabian carrier, Saudi Airlines, has commenced direct flights from Riyadh to Uganda’s Entebbe International Airport, becoming the first airline to make direct flights between the two destinations.
Entebbe becomes the airline’s fourth destination in Africa. It currently also flies to Mauritius, Nairobi and Addis Ababa.
Whenever a new operator comes, it is a vote of confidence in the country’s aviation systems. We expect that Saudi Airlines coming on board will help us increase the passenger traffic that has been steadily grown through the years.
Mr Vianney Luggya, the spokesperson of the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority
The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority says an estimated 21% of the passenger traffic at Entebbe Airport is contributed by the Middle East. The entry of Saudi Airlines brings to 17, the number of international flight operators at Entebbe.
Saudi Airlines is the flag carrier of Saudi Arabia, based in Jeddah. The airline’s main operational base is at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah. King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and King Fahd International Airport in Dammam are secondary hubs. The airline is the third largest in the Middle East in terms of revenue, behind Emirates and Qatar Airways. It operates domestic and international scheduled flights to over 100 destinations in the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Europe and North America.
