Safaricom has announced that it will pay Kshs 74.92 billion in its 2019 Financial Year. The dividends include Kshs 50.08 billion for ordinary shares as well as Kshs 24.84 billion in special dividends. The total payout for the Telco’s FY2019 amounts to Kshs 74.92 billion as compared to Kshs 44.07 billion in FY 2018.
In the company’s Annual General Meeting, shareholders approved a total dividend of Kshs 1.87 per share; a 70% increase from last year’s Kshs. 1.25 per share. The massive difference in the two years’ revenues is because of the Telco’s increased profits which motivated a special dividend. Last year, Safaricom did not have a special dividend payout.
Investors in Safaricom will enjoy their share of the company’s Kshs 62.49 billion in profits which will comprise of the Telco’s retained earnings. The profits rose from last year’s Kshs 55.29 billion. The company’s Earnings Before Interest and Taxes (EBIT) stood at Kshs 89.6 Billion in comparison with last year’s Kshs 79.2 billion.
