Safaricom plc chairman, John Ngumi, has resigned from the telco after only five months in charge to focus on green energy projects across Africa.
According to a report by Bloomberg, Ngumi, who started on Aug. 1, resigned on Dec. 22. A new chair will be elected in the coming weeks.
As stated by the company, John has provided a wealth of industry knowledge and vast expertise. He has steered Safaricom through a general election and supported the entrenchment of their purpose of transforming lives through their products and services and within the communities they serve.
Following partially privatising the country’s telecommunications industry in 2021, the company gained entry into Africa’s second-largest population country.
