Safaricom Plc has launched two new base stations and expanded Fibre-To-Home connectivity in the Coast region as part of its broader strategy to expand its network infrastructure in the country.

One of the stations at Holili in Taita Taveta County will help ease voice data and text communication in the region thus expand Safaricom’s network reach in the vast Coast Region.

The Tsavo cluster station will serve 4 counties, Taita Taveta County, Kwale County, Makueni County and Kajiado and is the only network provider that caters for 4G in the region.

Coast region currently has 586 base stations with 80 new stations opened in the last six months.

Aside from the network stations the firm has launched Fibre to Home services in Bamburi, Mombasa County. The service will allow customers to have fast, reliable and unlimited internet access from the comfort of their homes.

The network is expected to tap into fast growing regional markets with Coast region being one of the high areas with a wide network demand. The Fibre network now connects key cities and towns, spanning over 4,700 kilometers

“We are pleased that we are rolling out our plan and Coast region is benefiting from it. Our regional operations keep us focused on the best ways of covering the entire country with strong and reliable signals. The improvements are a reflection of our smart network deployment and continuous investment in building robust systems.” says Fawzia Ali, Head of Coast Region, and Safaricom.

According to the company’s annual report, the new developments are part of Safaricom’s annual plan that will see the Telco invest largely on infrastructure. Currently there are 4,677 sites providing 95% population coverage with 3G and 4G network.
