Safaricom subscribers intending to activate a new SIM card, engage in a SIM swap, obtain a PUK Number or migrate from one tariff to another will not be able to do so from 5.00 pm today of 22nd August 2020.
This is due to a planned 24-hour service upgrade that will occasion the disruption of these services.
The weekend system upgrade and maintenance will last through this evening to Sunday 23rd, 2020, at 5.00 pm.
“We are upgrading our systems to support the growth of our products and features and to ensure that we continue to deliver innovations in line with our customers’ needs,” said a statement from Safaricom in part.
However, the telco firm has assured its subscribers that call, data, electronic cash transfers, and SMS services will not be disrupted during the 24-hour upgrade.
Safaricom has been upgrading its services in recent months, including the one undertaken last month on its cash transfer platform-which now provides an alert to a user on the daily KSh 300,000 transaction limit.
The mobile firm has been promoting a payment plan that allows users to upgrade their handsets to the 4G enabled smart devices.
