Safaricom announces the introduction of sim cards with the 0110 and 0111 prefixes available to customers across the country.
In addition, the telco says that customers will have the freedom to choose their own number rather than having pre-assigned mobile phone numbers.
Sylvia Mulinge, chief customer officer, says the new numbering system is part of the firm’s commitment to be Simple, Transparent, and Honest.
Communication Authority of Kenya rolled out the new prefixes after exhaustion of the 07XX prefixes in 2019.
Safaricom hopes to net an additional 2 million customers adding to the 34.5 million it already has. Although the sim cards are free, customers will need top-up Ksh50 to activate and get connected.
