    Safaricom Shares Boost Activity at the NSE

    Boosted by the sale of Safaricom shares, turnover soared to KSh.1.29Bn from the previous session’s KSh.384M, the number of shares traded stood at 34M against 10.5M posted this Monday.

    Safaricom was the day’s main feature with 20.9Million shares valued at KSh.629 Million changing hands at between KSh.29.50 and KSh.30.10; this represented 48.75 per cent of the day’s traded value.

    The NSE 20 share Index was up 5.78 points to stand at 2589.83. All Share Index NASI picked up 0.34 points to stand at 159.91.The NSE 25 Share index added 17.69 points to settle at 3941.58.

    The Banking Sector had shares worth KSh.520Milliion transacted which accounted for 40.27per cent of the day’s traded value.

    Equity Group Holdings was the most traded counter in this sector with 5.8Million shares valued at KSh.302.5Million changing hands at between KSh.50.00 and KSh.52.25.

    KCB Group up fifty cents to KSh.52.50 moved 3.7Million shares valued at KSh.194.5Million.

    Co-operative Bank moved 729,000 shares worth KSh.11.2M and closed at KSh.15.50.

    The Commercial & Services sector had shares worth 7.3 Million traded & accounted for 0.57per cent of the day’s traded value. Scan group traded 392,000 shares worth KSh.6.6Million and closed ta KSh.16.90.

    The Insurance sector had shares worth 5.3M traded & accounted for 0.65per cent of the day’s traded value. Sanlam Kenya closed 2.37per cent higher to KSh.17.25 moving 310,000 shares valued at KSh.5.3Million.

    The Manufacturing & Allied sector had shares worth 121Million traded & accounted for 9.41per cent of the day’s traded value. E.A Breweries moved 630,000 shares worth KSh.121Million at between KSh.190.00 and KSh.196.00.

    The Bond market had bonds worth KSh.591Million transacted.
