Safaricom shareholders to receive KSh 18 Billion Interim dividend

Safaricom has issued a notice on interim dividend for the year ended 31st March 2021, of KSh 0.45 per ordinary share held amounting to KSh 18.029 Billion.

This is in recognition of the listed telco’s solid half-year performance and to support its shareholders during these difficult times occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic.

    Safaricom half year results

“The half-year financial results of the firm were published on 9th November 2020. The interim dividend will be payable to shareholders on the register as at close of business on 5th March 2021 and will be paid on or about 31st March 2021,” said Kathryne Maundu, Company Secretary in a statement issued by the Safaricom Board of Directors.

Safaricom Plc Net earnings for the six months period ended 31st September 2020 fell 6% to KSh 33.069 Billion compared to a Net profit of KSh 35.195 Billion over a similar period in 2019.

This is as effects of the COVID-19 pandemic disrupts virtually all sectors of Kenya’s economy, Safaricom included.

The firm’s board attributed this subdued financial performance to Safaricom’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including free cash transfers below KSh 1,000 which severely eroded its M-Pesa revenue streams.
