Boosted by the sale of Safaricom shares, market turnover at the Nairobi Securities Exchange(NSE) yesterday soared to KSh1.6Billion from the previous sessions KSh.531Million.
The number of shares traded stood at 44Million against 16Million posted when trading at the bourse opened on Monday this week.
Safaricom was yesterday’s main feature with 24Million shares valued at KSh.676Million changing hands at between KSh27.90 and KSh29.00; this represented 41.16% of the day’s traded value.
The Banking Sector had shares worth KSh.638Million transacted which accounted for 38.80% of the day’s traded value.
Equity Group Holdings was the most actively traded counter in this sector with 10Million shares valued at KSh376Million changing hands at between KSh36.95 and KSh39.50.
KCB Group moved 6Million shares worth KSh240Million and closed at KSh38.95. Stanbic Holdings remained steady at KSh.88.00 with shares worth KSh9.6Million transacted.
The Commercial & Services sector had shares worth 3.7Million traded & accounted for 0.23% of the day’s traded value.
Nation Media Group touched an all-time low of KSh20.00 before easing up to close at KSh20.20 with shares worth KSh1.7Million transacted.
The NSE 20 share Index was down 14.96 points to stand at 2038.99. All Share Index NASI dropped 1.23 points to settle at 139.42. The NSE 25 Share index lost 29.28 points to settle at 3320.10.
The biggest gainers were Kenya Airways, Flame Tree, Eveready, Kapchorua Tea and I&M Holdings while the biggest loser was NSE.
