Kenyan telco Safaricom says it has entered into a strategic agreement to become a reseller of Amazon Web Services (AWS).
In a statement, the telco noted that the agreement is designed to accelerate its ‘internal IT transformation, lower costs and provide it with a blueprint and skilled resources to assist customers with their journey to the cloud.’
This comes after the cloud computing arm of US E-Commerce giant Amazon announced plans to establish a new edge location in Nairobi in November 2019.
In addition, Safaricom will be able to offer AWS services to East-African customers, allowing businesses of all sizes to quickly get started on AWS cloud and accelerate innovation.
Safaricom also announced it has joined Amazon’s global partner program AWS Partner Network (APN). The program is for technology and consulting businesses who leverage AWS to build solutions and services for customers.
