Safaricom Picks Ilanna Darcy as New CFO

Safaricom has picked insider, Ilanna Darcy, as the new Chief Finance Officer (CFO) in an interim capacity effective July 1st, 2020. Darcy has been working at Safaricom since 2017 as the head of investor relations, financial planning, and analysis and replaces Sateesh Kamath who was appointed as CFO, Vodafone Business.

Darcy will be tasked with overall financial planning, management, and oversight of the organization. She has previously worked for Digicel Group in South East Asia as the Chief Financial Officer, in Vanuatu and before that as the Group Finance Manager, Asia Pacific, based in Singapore. In addition, Darcy has held positions such as Contract Finance Manager for Unilever Ireland and Financial Controller for Bird Eye in Ireland.

During her stint as the Head of Investor Relations, Darcy oversaw several milestones. She helped strengthen the firm’s position as a stock of choice seeing that the share price has grown from Ksh18.57 at the time she was joining to the current Ksh28.90.

She helped deliver the Hyperion Project that saw Safaricom move from the manual to a system-generated style of reporting, leading to greater efficiencies. She has also steered the finance team in building financial planning that has enabled the telco to make decisions faster and provide richer data insights.

She holds a Bachelor of International Commerce with Italian from the University College Dublin and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. Safaricom hopes to tap into Darcy’s more than 20 years’ experience, 13 at the senior level and work across three continents in retail, FMCG, and telecommunication sectors.
