Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore Resumes Work After 9 Month Medical Leave

Safaricom boss Bob Collymore is already back in the country and resumed his duties after being away since last year October receiving treatment from undisclosed illness.

“I’m back. Thanks to everyone who supported me over the past 9 months especially the clinical team at @UCLH, my superb @SafaricomPLC team and of course my wife @WambuiKamiru” Mr Bob Posted on his twitter handle.

At the same time, Mr Collymore on Monday morning appeared before parliament’s ICT committee that is investigating Safaricom’s dominance in the country pushed by other market players.

Safaricom Chief financial Officer Sateesh Kamath has been overseeing operations at the Telco, which has had smooth running while allowing Collymore to re confirm some important decisions needed for the company while in London via video link.

In April he had recorded a video which was only shared to his staff where he had assured them that he was responding well to treatment and was excited to get back to work.

“As you can see I have put a little weight on, about 10kg to be precise. My wife’s cooking is clearly doing fantastic work with that,” according to Nairobi News

Safaricom had recorded a 9.8 per cent increase in its total revenue in the year ended in March to Ksh 233Bn from Ksh 212 Bn in the same period last year. In his commentary Mr. Collymore had said that he will continue to invest in the key revenue drivers including M-pesa and data to maintain growth.
