Safaricom Appoints Adil Khawaja as Board Chairman

Safaricom appointed lawyer Adil Khawaja as the new board chairman, replacing John Ngumi, who resigned after serving less than six months.

The statement, released by the company, announced that the election had taken place on Thursday 25th.

It also highlighted the new board member’s reputation as a respected figure in the Kenyan legal profession. He is considered one of the most sought-after lawyers in Kenya, with recognition in various practice groups globally.

Before his appointment, Adil held the director position at the major telecommunications company starting December 22, 2022.

Additionally, he has served on the boards of multiple companies in various industries, including the Rhino Ark Charitable Trust, Al-Futtaim Automotive-CMC Motors Group Limited, and Atua Enkop Motors Limited.

He has served as a board director for the Kenya Power and Lighting Company and as a Trustee for the Kenya Wildlife Service.

Adil Khawaja was also a director of KCB Bank Group from 2012 and served as the first chairman of KCB Bank Kenya from 2016 to 2020. Currently, he is the managing partner at Dentons Hamilton Harrison and Mathews, a law firm established in 1902.
