Rwanda’s Bralirwa to Start Brewing Heineken Brand Locally

Bralirwa will start producing Heineken, a move that improve the retail prices and boost sales of the beer in Africa.

The Rwanda’s largest beer manufacturer will brew the local Heineken in Western Gisenyi province where its plant is situated. This is expected to place it as a major player in Africa’s beer industry.

Rwanda has been importing Heineken brand from Netherlands. Local brewing will see the price drop down by a fifth. A price per bottle of Heineken will retail at Ksh94 from its current rate of Ksh113 once production commences.

Braliwa, which also brews other local brands such as Primus, had announced its plans to invest in local production of Heneken last year. Produced beer surplus will be exported to Rwanda’s neighbours, especially Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Other nations that brew Heineken locally include Nigeria, Namibia, South Africa, Algeria, Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia and Ethiopia.

In the world, Heineken is second in beer production only to Belgium’s Anheuser-Busch InBev.
