Rwandan government will connect heavy industries with electricity at no cost as it seeks to ease the cost of setting up businesses in the country.
This is a major reprieve for investors, as connecting power can cost upwards of Rwf40 millions per kilometer.
Industrial customers in the country require dedicated electricity size, which should not be below 100KVA because they are connected with a transformer that are allocated only for them.
“The management of REG wishes to inform the general public, especially the investors who are in the process of setting up industries that in a bid to ease business in Rwanda, from 1st January 2019, new connection of industries will be done free of charge,” said Ron Weiss, the REG’s chief executive.
The only requirement for industrial customers to benefit from this opportunity is to complete an online application available on the REG website.
