Roam, an electric mobility manufacturer, has launched ‘Roam Explorer’, a digital platform designed to connect and manage electric motorcycles, tuk-tuks, buses, and cars across Africa.
- •The system provides real-time monitoring of battery health, vehicle performance, location, and usage.
- •Using artificial intelligence (AI), the platform can predict maintenance needs and reduce the risk of unexpected breakdowns.
- •The lack of remote monitoring has slowed scaling, increased operational risk, and made asset financing more challenging.
“Roam Explorer changes how electric fleets are managed. It moves us from reacting to problems to preventing them. By giving real-time visibility into battery health and vehicle performance, we are making electric fleets safer to operate and easier to finance,” said Habib Lukaya, Roam’s Country Manager.
The platform will work on 2G, 3G, and 4G networks, keeping vehicles connected even in rural areas. It will allow operators to access data via a smartphone interface or SMS, broadening usability beyond smartphone-dependent systems.
It also opens new opportunities for fleet financing. Lenders can gain visibility over financed vehicles, while fleet managers can monitor performance across multiple vehicles. The system was developed in Kenya in collaboration with Swedish technology partners
