Drivers of ride-hailing digital taxis are pushing the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to cap operators commissions at 5%.
In a raft of proposals submitted to the Senate, the drivers, through the Digital Taxi Forum (DTF), want the following also implemented:
- •Turnover tax retained at 3%
- •Parking fees and business permits paid to City Hall capped at 2%
- •Vehicles be allowed to operate “as long as they have road worthiness certificates from the NTSA, regardless of the vehicle age
- •Drivers be allowed to join trade unions
- •Allowed to pay a one-time fee of KSh500 for the digital hauling badge, as opposed to the current KSh3,500 fee, subject to annual renewal charges of KSh1,000
- •All cars be fitted with security cameras to help them record incidents during trips
In December last year, NTSA capped the ride-hailing firms’ commission at 15% per trip, even as Bolt is currently charging at 20% as Little Cab charges 19%, amidst tough economic times.
